Her design is really fantastic - I love it.

Those plate are meant to protect the life support system, navigator and other delicate devices such as cold Plasma field generator under the chest plate of hers. And as the Juggernaut type hunters that glove are meant to save her fist from her own powerful punch.
Beside in the age that even smallest of rifle bullet can rip thought tank's armor like hot knife thought butter. Trust me you wouldn't a need any physical piece of armor on you to just slow you down.
